All About My Cecostomy Surgery!

On the first day at the hospital I went to my room and got ready for Tuesday, the surgery day. I had an IV put in my arm for the whole five day’s.

Before the IV I watched a movie called Megamind at the hospital movie theatre.  Then I went to bed still with the IV on my hand.

Some doctors and nurses came in my room in the middle of the night when I was sleeping to see how I was doing.

The next morning I got ready for the surgery. I had a really good breakfast in the morning. I rested and watched some TV in the whole morning.

Then it was lunch time.  It was an awesome lunch. I did some activities in the afternoon.

After it was time for surgery.  I was very scared at first but when it happened I was not scared.

After I had a long sleep.  Then I watched some TV with Mum.

Then I was hungry, so I had some biscuits when I played cards with Grandma until Dad came to take Mum home.

Then it was tea for me.  It was delicious.

Then I watched hockey.  Toronto was playing the Hurricanes.  Toronto won!  The score was 5 to 3.

Then Dad was back.  I was asleep by then.  The next morning it was time for the nurses to do the button.

After it was time to go home.  They took out the IV, then I jumped out of bed.  Then we got ready to go home.

When I got home I ran to my room and jumped on my bed.  I was happy I got to go home.

Now that was the story about my Cecostomy Surgery.

The End!

Cecostomy Tube Replacement Scheduled for Wednesday

Caleb is scheduled to go in and have his cecostomy tube replaced on Wednesday. Because of the nature of the tube it has to be replaced once a year.

Unlike the initial surgery the replacement of his cecostomy tube is only a day surgery. They snip off the current button, push the remainder of the tube into his bowel, and then insert the new tube into the existing hole. We have been told that the actual hands on time for the surgeon is less than 10-minutes.

Caleb is feeling quite nervous about the upcoming operation on Wednesday and said this at one of our recent appointments at the Alberta Children’s Hospital:

He would appreciate your prayer for Wednesday.

If you are unsure of what Caleb had done, and what the cecostomy tube is, then check out Caleb’s story about when he first got the cecostomy tube put in.
