Cecostomy Tube Replacement Scheduled for Wednesday

Caleb is scheduled to go in and have his cecostomy tube replaced on Wednesday. Because of the nature of the tube it has to be replaced once a year.

Unlike the initial surgery the replacement of his cecostomy tube is only a day surgery. They snip off the current button, push the remainder of the tube into his bowel, and then insert the new tube into the existing hole. We have been told that the actual hands on time for the surgeon is less than 10-minutes.

Caleb is feeling quite nervous about the upcoming operation on Wednesday and said this at one of our recent appointments at the Alberta Children’s Hospital:

He would appreciate your prayer for Wednesday.

If you are unsure of what Caleb had done, and what the cecostomy tube is, then check out Caleb’s story about when he first got the cecostomy tube put in.

My Lego Creation – Sea Serpent and Scuba Diver Submarine

Lego Sea SerpentLego Sea SerpentI love Lego. I have a lot of Lego sets. It’s really fun to play with. For Christmas I got two Creator sets, a Street Corner, and a farm set. I almost made all of them that day. It’s really fun to build it, then I play with it. Sometimes I make my own creations which I think are really cool.

I got the idea for the sea serpent and the scuba diver submarine from the Atlantis series in a Lego sticker book. I made the creation using a creator set.

School Field Trip to Mount Yumnuska, Kananaskis

One day I went on a field trip with my dad to Kananaskis Country.  It took has a long time to get there.  On the way there I saw a lot of wild life, some even said they saw a bear.  Some of the wild life I saw was Deer, a Beaver Dam , and maybe a Bear.

Hiking at the Base of Mount Yumnuska, KananaskisWhen we got there I needed to go to the Dunny (outhouse).

We got introduced to are guide.  It was really windy when we started to hike.  I spotted a lot of things, I even found a birds nest.  We hiked for a long time.  She even showed us a mountain called mount Yumnuska.

Mount Yumnuska Kananaskis

Kananaskis Mount Yumnuska Mine PondAfter we walked up a big dirt road to a mind.  When we got up the road she said to get a rock as big as your hand.  Then she let us throw it into a little pond.  Then we went into long wavy grass.  Swissssshhhhhy, Swassssshhhhhy, Swissssshhhhhy, Swassssshhhhhy! When we got out we did an experiment with clay.

Explosive Bunker for old Mount Yumnuska Kananaskis MineAfter we walked a bit, we found a little stoned shed that was used for mine equipment. Then we walked on a hilly path that had trees sticky out from every direction. Then we passed the other group. After we had some yummy lunch we played some games.  We even threw rocks on the ice.  My dad use to camp there and they even went around Mount Yumnuska. Then we went down a path that had no leaves on the trees.

Bird Nest that Caleb FoundAfter a while, we ended at the same spot were I found the bird nest.  We saw the other group heading for the bus and we raced them and we were first.  Then we sat in our seats and headed back to school.  The bus ride felt longer then it did before.  When we got to school it was time to go home.

Now that was the field trip to Mount Yumnuska.

Princess Tamara found a mushroom that said, “I will give you one wish that will come true.”.

She asked Pip, “Can you help me make a wish?”.

Pip said “Yes.”. Pip came up with a cake.

The princess said “Yes.”.

So they wished for a cake and they ate the yummiest cake ever.

And that is how Pip saved the day…

A Long Bike Ride To Calgary Christian School

One day me, my Dad and my sister went for a bike ride to my school. It took 52 KM there and back! It felt like it was as long as the whole city!  It took the whole day.

First we started at our house, then we went to Fish Creek Park where I threw up. I was kind of scared at Fish Creek Park because we went gravel. I slipped a couple of times but I didn’t fall or hurt myself.

We needed to go up hills and down. When we got to the top of a hill, I felt sick holding Dad’s bike.

We went to the washroom’s, and then the biking continued. After we got to the top of a hill, we stopped at a bench to have a drink of water. After we had a drink, then we started again. I felt really excited to get to my school.

The next park was Glenmore Park, it felt like the longest park. When we got out of the park, we rode on the road to my school. Then we went over a  big bridge. When we got across, I tripped on a bump and fell down and hurt myself. So we went to 7-Eleven to buy band aids.

Then we finally reached my school.

We had lunch and played on the playground at the school. After we started to head home.

When we got home I was sweating like a big fat pig. I had a nice clean shower and I smelt a lot better.

Then it was dinner time, it was a delicious. Then I went to bed. I fell asleep really fast.

The End…

The Day I Went Camping

(a work of fiction)

One day we went camping at Banff. It was as beautiful as a flower.

We started to pitch up our tent when, BOOM! It started to rain. There was lightning and thunder when suddenly, BOOM!

Then we saw some light and some smoke. There was a forest fire! Luckily there was rain to put the fire out. But the bad news is that there’s lightning and thunder. It was as scary as a bear trying to kill me and eat me. Then we put on some special clothes and went to investigate what was going on.

When we got there two people where hurt. I rushed back to the tent and called 9~1~1. There was no answer. I got some emergency stuff and ran back to the fire. I told Mum and Dad “I tried to call 9~1~1 but it didn’t work because the power line is broken”. I said as well, “I got some emergency stuff from the tent to help these people out!”. We did our best to help them and it worked.

They said to us, “Thank you for helping us!”.

We replied, “Your welcome.”.

I made an announcement, “Let’s get this fire out!”. Then we got to work. We did our best to get the fire out and it worked.

My family said to the two people, “Do you want to come to our tent and warm up?”.

They answered, “Yes!”.

They came to our tent and warmed up and asked, “Can we come to your house?”.

We answered, “Yes!”.

Then they came to our house and we lived happily ever after with the two people.

The End!

Caleb Reads 1 Corinthians 15: 51-57

A couple of weeks ago Caleb was asked to read a verse at church as part of the service. There are some pretty big words in the verse, so he spent quite a few nights practising reading the verse, 1 Corinthians 15: 51-57.

We broke with our usual habit of sitting near the back of church so that he could head up in the middle of worship to speak. He did a great job, and you can see it for yourself…

Here is the verse so you can read it for yourself:

Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed — in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”

The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Our church in Calgary is South Calgary Community Church. They have an English service, Russian service and Brazilian / Portuguese service every Sunday and have a kids program that our children love.

All About My Cecostomy Surgery!

On the first day at the hospital I went to my room and got ready for Tuesday, the surgery day. I had an IV put in my arm for the whole five day’s.

Before the IV I watched a movie called Megamind at the hospital movie theatre.  Then I went to bed still with the IV on my hand.

Some doctors and nurses came in my room in the middle of the night when I was sleeping to see how I was doing.

The next morning I got ready for the surgery. I had a really good breakfast in the morning. I rested and watched some TV in the whole morning.

Then it was lunch time.  It was an awesome lunch. I did some activities in the afternoon.

After it was time for surgery.  I was very scared at first but when it happened I was not scared.

After I had a long sleep.  Then I watched some TV with Mum.

Then I was hungry, so I had some biscuits when I played cards with Grandma until Dad came to take Mum home.

Then it was tea for me.  It was delicious.

Then I watched hockey.  Toronto was playing the Hurricanes.  Toronto won!  The score was 5 to 3.

Then Dad was back.  I was asleep by then.  The next morning it was time for the nurses to do the button.

After it was time to go home.  They took out the IV, then I jumped out of bed.  Then we got ready to go home.

When I got home I ran to my room and jumped on my bed.  I was happy I got to go home.

Now that was the story about my Cecostomy Surgery.

My Trip to Forgetmenot Pond

On Fathers Day 2011, we went to Forgetmenot Pond that was in the mountains.  It was a great there.

We went around the pond.  After a while, we stopped to eat our snack and let Mum feed Elijah.

After me and my sister (Jessica) were done our snack Dad taught us how to skip rocks.  It was a lot of fun.  The highest I got  was 5.  I was having a lot of fun.

My sister and I had our classes on because it was sunny outside.  Then it was time to go home.

I was tired and fell asleep on the way home.
