On Tuesday I went to Gran and Pop’s house because Mum and Dad had a Doctor’s appointment and after they had the doctor’s appointment they would have tea (supper) out.
When I was at Gran and Pop’s house I played with a home made race track with Elijah and it was a blast. Then I went outside with Elijah to play with the ball and see some ducks. When we came inside I watched a football tape with Elijah. Elijah and I were the commentators and we booed and cheered. After I got tired of watching TV. I asked Pop if we could go to Brighton oval to kick the football at the goals. So off me and Pop went to the oval.
After I started kicking the ball at the goals I saw someone with long hair running around the oval. The person came closer and he asked me to handball the ball when he passed so I did, then he hand balled it back to me. When the man was farther away I went to tell Pop who I thought I saw. I told him that he looked just like Rory Sloane. Pop agreed that he was Rory Sloane, but we were wondering why was he at Brighton oval, shouldn’t he be on holiday or training at football park instead of being at this small and ordinary oval?
Rory Sloane was about to past us again so Pop found a piece of paper and a pen. He was right in front of us when we asked for his autograph but he ran right past because he was in a middle of a run, but he said he would be back soon, and he was. The next time he passed us he ran a bit farther but he then walked back to us.
He then signed the piece of paper then he talked to us a bit which was lucky. He also stood on the mark and wanted me to kick the ball at the goal at a really sharp angle. I kicked the football to the goal and it went in. After I kicked the ball to the goal he came over to me and gave me a high five and called me “Eddie Betts” (a good kicker who runs around the mark and kicks).
When we were at home we told everyone at home that we met Rory Sloane and got his autograph. They were all really happy for me seeing and talking to my favourite football player. Then we all had tea (supper) at Gran and Pop’s house. We had a roast with some vegetables with orange juice.
Mum and Dad came home a bit later that night because they had tea out. After they told us about there day I talked about my day. They were also happy for me seeing him.
The next day my dad checked on Twitter to see if Rory Sloane had tweeted back. We saw that he tweeted but it was weird in a different sort of way. I didn’t tell him about my dad’s first name and my dad didn’t mention my name at all. Yet he mentioned my name in his reply, he said that I had really good aim. Also, he remembered my name when other people wouldn’t remember my name. Our family think that Rory and me had a good time, especially me.
@BillHutchison no worries.. Caleb can kick the footy very well.

Meeting Rory Sloane was the best part of my holiday, and I think it will stay like that. He is very friendly and kind to everybody, and that’s why I like Rory Sloane so much.
Well, it’s quite evident Caleb that your good kicking MUST come from your Mum. 😉 Have I told you about the handball competition (the Aussie Rules ‘handball’, not the Canadian version) I beat your Uncles in when I was about your age? Haha!!
Caleb that is so exciting!! I still remember meeting my favorite musician. He shook my hand and spoke to me for a while. It felt great that he took the time to speak with me. Those qualities that you like about Rory I can see in you too 🙂 Miss you bud!

Caleb – that is such a cool experience. Talk about awesome timing for you and Pop to go kick the footy. Rory Sloane seems like a special kind of athlete – super skilled and super nice as well. Thanks for sharing this. Grandpa and I love to hear about your adventures.
Yes Caleb,we fitted a lot in that day, didn’t we.
The car track brought back memories from yours in Townsville.
Sloanys’ a good guy and very friendly.
He is one of my favourites also.
I always thought you had a good kick.
Now he thinks that too.
We must get to some Crows games at Adelaide oval next season.
love Pop
Hey Caleb, now that’s a great story to tell everyone about. It was lucky Pop had a piece of paper that Sloane could autograph for you. I bet you were nervous when you were kicking for goal while he was standing the mark – I sure would’ve been!
It was funny how you called Brighton Oval “ordinary and small”, that’s where Incle Corey and I used to play football when we started playing many years ago.
Thanks for sharing your story mate.
haha! I meant Uncle Corey, not Incle! 😛
Dear Caleb,
Perhaps when you grow into a great footballer, you will make a young person’s day like Rory made yours and Pops.
Canada misses you, Jessica and Elijah.
Thanks for telling us the story Caleb. Rory Sloane is one of my favorite players!
Wow Caleb, I never thought that you would actually meet a famous person.
